This is the record of specimens
that have left the archive.
Each one was made by hand,
by someone whose name was never written down.
Each one waited — in a farmhouse, on a shelf,
in a market at dawn — until it was found,
studied, photographed, and written about.
And then, one day, someone read its story
and decided to carry it forward.
We keep their records here,
because an archive does not forget
the things that passed through it.
The stories remain, even after the objects leave.
Somewhere, in a room we have never seen,
each of these is now part of someone's life.
That is where they were always going.
